New: the Bioethics Education Network Europe (BENE)!

BENE, is the abbreviated name of the Bioethics Education Network Europe. This European network of teachers, academics and researchers active in medical ethics/bioethics education in Europe focuses on that same education. Because education in medical ethics in the medical curriculum is becoming increasingly common in the Netherlands and Europe, says Mariëlle Diepeveen, herself a lecturer in medical ethics within the AUMC Department of Ethics, Law and Humanities. "With this new initiative we can structurally exchange experiences and reflect on our educational practice. We can then use this to further develop ethics education."

Founded in February of this year, BENE wants to exchange experiences and practical examples. And also promote and improve the quality of ethics education. To achieve this, BENE will organize meetings, webinars and joint (research) activities. BENE focuses on everyone who provides or coordinates (bio)ethics and/or medical ethics education at the university or college.

On November 28 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, BENE will organize the first activity: a webinar entitled 'Why Teaching Matters in Bioethics?' This webinar is free to attend - you must register. You can read more information about this webinar here.
